I love all kinds of music, from death metal to baroque, but it still astounds me that such a beautiful noise can come from just one person. Voices like these must truly be gifts, where from I don't know. Stunning...

what are you talking about "overplay". Venus enchanted Dido and caused her to fall in love with Aeneas so powerfully as to be beyond humanly possible otherwise. Now he has left and taken with him the only thing she had left. without his love she can't live. on the contrary, Norman is the only one alive who gives this piece the sorrow and majesty it deserves, a lament transcending the limits of human emotion.

Oh bequiet Radumo!Jessye Norman has a very beautiful voice. The vibrato is perfect and it's not pathetic and long. Her long notes is everlasting beauty! Her interpretion of this piece was very emotional. (I just hate it when someone criticize a singer with a voice of true beauty)

You need to listen with your heart not your head.Otter has elegance, true.Norman is simply one of the best singer ever.

There's too flesh in Norman's interpretation, too much vibrato and it's so so so pathetic and lonnnnng. "My FAAAAAAAAte..." Bleeeh. It's useless and this introduces a confusion between "tragic" and "pathetic". Otter has elegance. But if you think it's necessary to overplay so the listener can understand the Dido's feelings. |
