Janet Baker is just fantastic. Along with Kathleen Ferrier.. my goodness, it's mind-blowing.

Oh Ceil! This is magnificent!I haven't heard Janet Baker in some time. A great aria sung by a great dame, Dame Janet Baker.I was in love with her in the '70's and "80's, just as I was with von Stade in the '80's, Upshaw and Vaness in the '90's and Larmore in this decade. and all those great divas will be happy to know I'm still in love with them. :-)I'm now remembering Dame Janet singing some arias from some Bach and Handel oratorios. I hope I still have those recordings. Yes, a GRANDE DAME!

I'm in heaven listening to this. I met Janet Baker many years ago. She was elegant and true - just like the music she sings.I think I fell in love with her! I adore Handel and I adore her. The marriage of two great musical minds. Wonderful, really wonderful!

Once again, Janet Baker shows how versatile a singer can be or could be. Absolutely beautiful accents and musicality together with emotion. The only other interpretation she could share this aria with is Kathleen Ferrier. J. Baker is in the right tradition and in this aria she music and words form ONE. She is definitely a GRANDE DAME.Thank you for posting this video. |
