A D3D 10 app can default to D3D9 on XP and disable the D3D 10 libraries, as far as I know this demo doesn't any D3D 10 libraries to begin with.

yes, it does. i own windows xp and the human head demo runs smoothly and is all fine. sys: xp home sp3, 8800 gt, 2 gig ram

You're right, directX9 was a great rendering system. But its not the best in my eyes. When they went from 2d to 3d was prolly the best, don't remember which one it was though...
