I saw that one too.. The one with the dog-aggressive shepherd and he used the flirt pole. It's just a good idea to let the dog use his prey drive where it's appropriate and that will make him feel less urged to go after something like the chickens. I still wouldn't leave my dog alone with a goose though :-P He really does think it's food!

Oops, sorry I meant calm-assertive. Don't know what I was thinking. There was one clip where Cesar's friend used kind of a fishing pole-ish toy (like the cat toy ones where they chase a feather or a toy on a string attached to a pole) and he just used that for a German Shepherd that was prey driven to expel that energy and keep his attention.

The correct term is "calm-assertive".. The dog is supposed to be calm-submissive. Some dogs have a very intense drive that can only be managed, not "cured". I still love Cesar and love his show but pretty much all the dog knows right now is that he can't chase or harass chickens while someone is there to correct him. The dog needs an outlet where he can exhibit his prey drive and put it to good use, then maybe he'll leave the chickens alone. Maybe.

maybe you aren't being calm-submissive? I'd suggest also teaching your dog the leave it command.

I have a feeling the dog in this video didn't have a strong prey drive, just a playful attitude.Once my border collie chased some sheep when he wasn't supposed to, so I yelled at him.. and now he stays as far away from sheep as possible, poor guy, lol. I didn't mean to take his herding instincts away but I did apparently, lol

Maybe it just didn't work because you're not as good as Cesar.
