What kind of headers are on this?

I always calculated bore X stroke X number of cylinders X 3.14. That always worked when you calculated the bore and stroke of a 350 but I was just getting 379.26 when I tried to do it with the 383. My old automotive tech teacher showed us this way but I guess its missing something if you try to calculate anything over 350ci. Thank you for finally clearing this up for me, it was really starting to fuck with my head!

calculate your engine size by taking the square of the bore divided by 4, multiplied by pi, multiplied by the stroke, multiplied by the number of cylinders:((Bore X Bore) / 4) X pi X Stroke X CylindersFor example, a Chrysler 426 (Hemi or Wedge) has a standard bore of 4.25" and a standard stoke of 3.75". Plugging that into the above formula gives us:((4.25 X 4.25) / 4) X 3.141592654 X 3.75 X 8 = 425.59, or 426 cubic inches. Hope this helps...

i know you posted this a long fucking time ago and you might have already done it, but i built a 355 with a 490 lift comp cam, vortec heads, air gap intake, 10:1:1 compresion, MSD and had a edelbrock 600cfm. it was way to small, it would stall out at about 5000. i went with a 750 holley and would go till it came apart if you wished. it was in a 84 swb pickup w/ 3.08 gears and a th350 and ran low 14s at close to 100mph in a square heavy ass old pickup.

darcnitch is a dumbass "what kind of tranny bolts up to a 383 big block". its a small block you jackass unless youre talking about chrysler if so a chrysler transmission like a 727 torqe flite, if you thought it was a BBC then they have the same bellhousings has a small block unlike ford that had to use different ones.

badass small block!, by the way i was woundering if anyone could answer this question. why is it called a 383, everyone says its a .030 over 350 block with a 400 crank, if you do the math its only 379.626 cubic inches. it would have to be at least.060 over to be that at 382.452. could someone please explain this to me.

I would recommend using a TH350 or TH400 Transmission. Ditch the 700R4. |
