Been watching it again and comparing it to Perfect Strangers -which is probably a mistake as they are both supremely different pieces of drama, a total joy to watch.

This was on TV a couple of months ago, it was a pure joy to watch again. Stephen Poliakoff's writing is superb, and his characters are always so real!! If there was more stuff of this calibre on TV then I might be tempted to tune in!!

oh wow, i haven't watched this in way too long, haha. i must say i love your description. tim spall is one of my all-time favorite actors/objects of obsession, and it really irritates me when people only associate him with characters like pettigrew and the beadle, because his range is so much broader than that! i definately think his performance as oswald bates is some of the best work he's done. spall love, rock on : ]>>rando

Ain't he just? I positively adore him, truly. His vast creatively characters are always fascinating, never the same one twice. His work with accents is also commendable.
