Sorry, like most sheeple, you have been misinformed. There is absolutely no method to render any isotope of uranium radioactively inert. The term "depleted" refers to the harvesting of fissile forms of Uranium (such as U-235) from the U-238 bulk. Simply put depleted uranium = uranium 238. U-238 is -very hot- (highly radioactive) and emits mostly alpha particles, plenty of betas and some gammas. Breathe or ingest some of those particles and you'll have a bad date with cancer down the road.

While the depleted uranium that is used in armor piercing rounds is SUPPOSE to be the inert extract that is produced from removing the active radioactive material. However, there is no program to test that suppliers are providing this form.There are two options, test the grade of every bullet, which is impractical to impossible, or to switch to other forms of armor piercing bullets that are available, but more expensive.Uranium is also a toxic heavy metal, equivalent of cadmium.

And my tax dollars have gone into this horrible travesty. My tax dollars have gone into irradiating foreign lands for an eternity. I'm amazed I'm able to sleep at night knowing the military forces that are supposed to keep me safe are compromising the lives of innocent people around the world.
