I vote personally, but it dont matter to me either way if people vote or not... They are still gonna bitch so it makes little difference one way or the other.

Here in Australia we have mandatory vote, and it ain't that great. There are loads of people who just don't care enough to vote properly so they vote for person whos better looking or who has better public image, regardless of what their policies are. Our current prime minister went on Rove (popular talk show) and his opponent didn't and I'm sure he got good chunk of votes from Rove's fans. Then there are people who just cant get out of their house to vote, so they take $20 fine and just pay it.

it's to do with freedom concept i guess like they thought it was best to say hey if we are truely free why do we even have to vote if we don't want to i don't know i think it's retarded to not have to vote but i can understand i the idea

In my country everybody gets a note at home, with that note you go to a voting box and vote..in my neighboorscountry it's an obligation to vote..how come america, as "bringer o democracy" does not have an oblgatory vote? why do they need to register?
hertblue (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
Personally I think there should be mandatory voting with an abstention box on the ballot paper for people who wish to express their wish not to vote and dissatisfaction with all the candidates. Too many people have given so much, too many people have died for the democratic privilege and we should all, Scots like myself or Americans or anyone else, take it very seriously. Apathy is just not right in this. But anyway, well said Craig. Much better than making cheap digs about the old country ;-)

The idea of "running" a country or an economy is completely absurd anyway, but you're right, since I didn't vote I won't complain about how the country is run. I'll just complain about the existence of the state to begin with.

what he said in the end, i cannot agree. but i try not to talk about politics seriously, cuz it always leads to trouble, arguement, and unneccessary voice raising. not worth it to be honest.Craig is excellent tho,but sometimes he loses a bit standard. but at least,he's funny and not a knob :)
