Ah, yes. '97. The russian 5. Stevey Y. Darren McCarty. Mike Vernon. This was one of the flat out best rivalrys in all of sports for a while. Then, for no apparent reason, next year the Red Wings and the Avalanche played the first NHL game with 0 penalty minutes in 20 years. Its is dissapointing. But I can always remember when McCarty almost single-handedly beat, and beat down, the Colorado Avalanche to advance to the finals... 3 words come to mind... Old Time Hockey...

back when hockey was hockey, lovely stuff! I would bet if the wings got back to some PHYSICAL hockey half the arena wouldn't be empty every game now a days..Darn shame for the cup champs to get out chanted by visiting teams in their own building..Need to change the name from hockey town to ghost town...
