Romani are descended from a group who left India a thousand years ago. There's a bunch of evidence pointing towards this. Of course over such a long period of time people, especially when dispersed like the Rom, will change. That's why you get Romani with light features and others with dark. A lot of Romani are still dark skinned though, and many still share the same language. It's absolutely amazing. Check out he documentary Gypsy Caravan - it's well worth the watch.

like the kashubians(im one),magyars,basque and many other small ethnic groups,the rom are an unknown group left in europe.the language of these groups usually doesnt fall into the indo-european window and yet some are blonde haired blue eyed and others are dark hair, dark eyes.left overs from an earlier time?.who knows?.i sure as hell dont, but it seems we share some sort of common past.freaks out the celts when they learn they are from central asia though. too bad, hippies.
