Unlike this "pastor" - I invite my sisters and brothers in Christ to read The Shack... to read anything they want - even to listen to this man (who seems to be a stranger to truth). That is the difference between being a Christian, and a Bible-bibber.

I praise any book that shows up "pastors" who preach through condemnation, silent indignation, or just plain pettiness. The Holy Ghost calls us to speak up against people who cannot think beyond a book - people to whom Jesus is dead, and exists in printed human words that we are asked to believe were spoken by God Himself. I don't buy it for a second. Jesus is God. If so, the OT was very mistaken, very often. And the NT is equally open to debate. We are, after all, only human, and fallible.

I am sorry that you believe one slim little book to be The Word. Your god seems to have very little to say. The Word is not a book. If it were, the scriptures would all be indisputably identical in content: i.e. style, philosophy, opinion, morality, ethics; and there would be no ambiguity. Clearly the Bible is not God's actual words, but God revealing Himself through the flesh of others. All flesh is fallible. Gods Word is a relationship not a book.

Clearly you are more knowledgeable of other religions than I. But you once again fail to answer the question posed. Why is it you wish to avoid a succinct reply? You seem to disdain absolute ideas when it benefits your argument, but you have no problem making absolute statements.I believe in the Jesus of the Bible, and no other. I understand you hold a low view of the Bible, but I hold fast to it as the Word of God, even if my flesh doesn't agree with it.

Yes... they are all the same. He tells people not to read certain books, condemns lesbians, or bashes any church he thinks is "wrong". He reminds me of Savonarola...

Are you sure you read the teachings of Christ... or only the bits that you believe condemn other faiths. jesus is far more ancient than our relatively young Bible - not to mention the mark He left on other, older holy books. Christ did not just appear, and reveal Himself ONCE. Do you know what the Christ is? Are you familiar with it's more ancient Sanskrit equivalent, Krsna, Messiah, or Mahaprabhu. Do you know what Christ Himself was actually drawing upon when He said He was the way?

Many of Jesus parables wouldn't hold up under extended reading. Jesus says God is like a father. Oh, so God is a man is he? Who is God's wife?The fact that the allegory doesn't fit with every single interpretation doesn't mean it doesn't have its uses. The author's main point is that God is love and grace and forgiveness and community. Thousands of people have found this message helpful so how are you helping them by badmouthing it?
