nah, priest, maiden, diamond head, venom and motorhead have finger prints all over thrash, at least the early stuff anyway. without those bands there would never have been the thrash bands we all know and love!

saying priest arent to do with thrash its kind of retarded. but its also an on the fence arguement. cus without bands from the new wave of british heavy metal there would not be a metallica megadeth slayer as some of said. cus technically what they did since they were influenced by it is mix the heavy aspect of the new metal bands such as priest, with the fastpaced grimey feel of punk. thus thrash was born. so saying they are grandfathers id use the term loosely but it still holds water

It is from their new album (2008) The Formation of Damnation. In that album plays Paul Bostaph on Drums, Skolnick on guitar, Peterson on guitar, Chuck Billy on vocals, Greg Christian on bass. ;)

Actually, MetalMadnessFreak, Judas Priest inspired bands like metallica, slayer, and megadeth which were a few of the thrash metal precursors from the early 1980's movement. So in a way judas priest are a few of the thrash metal grandfathers. If you don't believe me then check out any interviews with metallica or megadeth involving them speaking of influences and they'll talk about judas priest, diamond head and other bands as their influences.
