Yea, from what I remember when I was little it never bothered him that people talked about his cheeks, he actually liked it which was weird (to me anyway). His personal life was awkward...I won't even go into that, lol. Thanks for replying.

I didn't say I was his uncle, he is MY uncle and I'm not a jerk. Read my comment again. -Candace

even though your not suppose to puff your cheeks like that when playing the trumpet there's no denying that he has a really good tone quality.

actually there is a video on youtube that has Dizzy himself explaining how he got his trumpet bent it is called "Dizzy's Trumpet Story"

He played upright. He wasn't Miles Davis who played downwards. After his horn accidentally got bent, Diz liked it better because he could hear himself better and thus had his trumpets made that way from then on. James Moody told me that story

WRONG! If you see the pics of him in the 40s with Charlie Parker, he had a normal trumpet. The bent up bell started as an accident later. A dancer backstage tripped over it and bent it up. Diz liked it better because he could hear himself better and thus had his trumpets made that way from then on. James Moody told me that story

WRONG! Miles Davis had the bad habit of leaning down. As you can see Diz plays very upright. The bent up bell started as an accident. A dancer backstage tripped over it and bent it up. Diz liked it better because he could hear himself better and thus had his trumpets made that way from then on. James Moody told me that story.

Nope! A dancer tripped over it back stage and bent it. Diz liked it because he could better hear himself and thus had his trumpets made that way from then on.

Clitti, let me just say that i am a saxophonist, yet i influence a LOT from Dizzy... thats how great i thought he was... and so amazing that he and Duke led drug free lives, unlike everyone else... Dizzy is one of my heroes
