It's very possible to blow Sylvia's roll in the great I & S years off, as strong as Ian was. But if you listen to the first few Vanguard recordings, she was an equal participant. Further, she wasn't, at all a background singer. Her roll was to provide one of the two parts of two part harmoney, andshe did it exquisitely

I saw Ian and Sylvia in coffeehouses in Washington D.C. before they were married. The venues were small, intimate. Their voices blended spectacularly. They were clearly in love. The experience was incomparable. I still have all the albums I bought in the 60's. Put on the headset, crank up the sound, and you'll never hear a better duo. Well... maybe The Everly Brothers. Almost. I loved these two! Buy their 'best of' CD and give yourselves a rare treat. |
