B.F. Skinner's Shaping Experiment (Skinner's Box) An adherent to Watson's theory of behaviorism, B.F. Skinner was able to demonstrate how one can modify behavior through a process he called "shaping." In contrast to pure classical conditioning, Skinner utilized positive and negative reinforcement to cause behavior.Utilizing a contraption that became known as "Skinner's Box" he demonstrated how he could shape the behavior of pigeons by reinforcing their behavior.Fonte: http://www.youtube.com/profile...

Why is the rating disabled? This is an obvious 5-star video! :)

I think what you guys are missing is the value of individuals buying into one school of thought so avidly. Each individual that believes 100% in something devotes all of their time to advancing that field. If we have an individual obsessively advancing each field we end up with multiple schools of thoughts/research being advanced at very high rates and those who are in the middle can benefit greatly from the use of each of these schools of thought.

I thought his flaw was in assuming people were pigeons.

Pinker is a Sociobiologist. Sociobiology is inherently ad-hoc and therefore unscientific, in my opinion. If you want a valid biological theory, turn to Ethology.

Another way in which Skinner was misunderstood. You have no idea what you are talking about. It was Watson who took the "blank slate" stance. Skinner acknowledged genetics and biological determinants. He also acknowledged internal processes - but he only explored the empirical basis of behavior - that which could be observed. Also, Skinner was for the most part, atheoretical; his major contributions were method rather than theory.

Skinner's behaviourism was flawed. He assumed people were blank slates. Read Steven Pinker's book 'the Blank Slate' which debunks this idea.
