Just because I said that the singer is black doesn't make me a racist.I simply said that the role for this great opera Tristan and Isolde was not meant for a black singer. It was meant for a blonde or nordic female opera singer. And this should not be construed as being a racist as Wagner was accused.Perhaps this black singer should go back to singing negro spirituals.

there was actually a lot of work between Karajan and the orchestra during rehearsals. The musician know him... it's all about intention and effects. He just need to look at them... and the can transcend into his world. But it takes great musicians for this.

you are F...ing racist. what are you doing watching this video? You have no sense what this work is about. Jessye Norman is one of the great artists of all times.BOO!!

In addition the singer is black and might I add overweight and not at all pleasing to the visual senses. But I can't fault her angelic voice.

I must confess that this piece of Wagner's music is getting quite irritating. But I must confess I have enjoyed at times but it is now becoming a pain.I need new material.

A truly extraordinary performance! Bravi! Each performer was brilliant!

i agree with you, it's quite obvious that a good orch can give a reasonable performance under a subpar conductor. but i was refering to yr earlier comment about karajan. "Let's not call it horrible, but it isn't perfect either." |
