Jeff Han is a research scientist for New York University's Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences. Here, he demonstrates—for the first time publicly—his intuitive, "interface-free," touch-driven computer screen, which can be manipulated intuitively with the fingertips, and responds to varying levels of pressure.

what I want is a laptop-type application, but without the multi-touch interface being a screen, just a touch pad, connected to a HUD, that would save battery life amazingly. Only difficulty would be seeing your hands against the image, but you could probably develop a static-electricity sensor on the interface.

OK I want one.

I think they are wasting money on this research. A true multi touch system should have the user interact with a laser projection in 3d and not with a device. Laser projected keyboards are already a reality, won't be long before you can interact with any application you can project.

you missed the point of the 10:11 video... it isnt the future of ds its the future of technology... go play with your DS and stick with that instead

so my computer is the best you can get home-built and i wonder what the cost is since my hands move fast on keyboards i might as well multi-task with a kick ass screen... whats the retail value of this amazing expensive looking thing

Early on I thought he said something about it not being expensive? Could that be true? Well I guess expensive is a relative term. Surely, besides the cost of the screen, there had to be a lot of CPU power behind it. Well, I'm very curious how soon I'll be able to get one. Looks and sounds like great fun. I won't have to buy a Lava lamp :-)
