Plus, he observes, and watches people. He is almost like a good samiritan in a strange way, but the way it is directed makes it seem like Travis is crazy. It is a great movie and rather disturbing.

The thing that makes it good is the character, not the movie. Here you have an average joe who just does not like society, does not fit in, and is trying to find a way to rebel. It is not so much the movie, but it makes you wonder if Travis is really a bad guy or a good guy? He cares about people, cares about morals and respect and society is just messed up and he cannot handle it.
