It's the sound. That buzzing sound is characteristic of the RR RB211 engine, nothing else quite sounds like it.

The RR engines are a bit narrower in diameter, and have a more tubular look, whereas the P&Ws are wider, and have a shorter length to them, sort of like comparing the IAEs to the CFM on the A320, with the IAE being the RR and the CFM being the P&W!
