http://trainwreckpolitics.com - Former Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee defends Barack Obama's handling of the Reverend Wright controversy, but also adds from his perspective as a former pastor that conservatives shouldn't be so quick to judge Jeremiah Wright either:"Sermons, after all, are rarely written word for word by pastors like Rev. Wright, who are delivering them extemporaneously, and caught up in the emotion of the moment. There are things that sometimes get said, that if you put them on paper and looked at them in print, you'd say 'Well, I didn't mean to say it quite like that."..."As easy as it is for those of us who are white to look back and say 'That's a terrible statement!' ... I grew up in a very segregated South. And I think that you have to cut some slack — and I'm gonna be probably the only conservative in America who's gonna say something like this, but I'm just tellin' you — we've gotta cut some slack to people who grew up being called names, being told you have to sit in the balcony when you go to the movie, you have to go to the back door to go into the restaurant..."

I am a conservative Democrat that is voting for Obama, but I have to say, Huckabee really does come across as someone I would have potentially voted for...mainly because he doesn't jump on band-wagons, he understands the financial burdens of America, and he understands the struggles people of color (me being Alaska Native) contend with ona day-to-day basis.

I congratulate Huckabee for his straight-forwardness. However, I fundamentally disagree with Huckabee about the Constitution. The Constitution was designed to limit the powers of the government. Not to empower the will of God. Sorry Huck.

wow!! I would have to agree that this guy sound intelligent and reasonable and not at all would I have expected him to say what he did. I might have actaully considered voting for him if he had been the republican nominee.

This shows how, the Roman Catholic Church, is trying to drive a wedge between Black and White Protestants.

Huckabee impressed me..."I probably would have had MORE of a chip on my shoulder." An older, REALISTIC white man from the south....unbelievable.
