I had the occasion to listen to Sonny at one of my favorite local bars in Saginaw, Michigan where he was born... He walked in for a cold beer and ended up playing a 3 hour concert for me and the jazz trio who were practicing... I was the only customer in the barFantastic!!

I was very fortunate to have met and heard Sonny during his frequent Chicago gigs. What a STELLAR musician!!! Thanks for posting a video of this master player.

Stitt was great, I love him, but funnyman, NO ONE is better than Bird.

I hate how ppl say that bird was better than stitt. THey both were great in their own way. Yes they both played bebop saxophone but each did have their own language and style. Don't take away from Stitt's legacy he was a bad bad bad ass on the sax.

The thing I dig about Sonny is how he made the changes. No rhythm section needed!

One of the all time greatest for sure. Late in his career but still wailing. Caught him live at the Jazz Workshop in North Beach, San Francisco with Gene Ammonds. That was in the early 60's.

It is such a wonderful feeling to be able to hear and see some of the music I grew up with during the "Charlie Parker" era. I never dreamed that I would be able to see my brother-in-law, Tommy Potter performing after his passing in the eighties. It is wonderful!
