Heh,Chris, have u practiced TKD? :)'Cause I think u have to be doin' it for a while to know what it is about:))And,yes,it is many styles. I practice ITF (Only practiced for 1 year, but that doesn't matter,I placed 3rd in the Norvegian Championship) and the guard is REALLY important. I wouldn't have got my medal without a guard, trust me^^

I was just explaining to Chris here that there are several "styles" of TaeKwon-Do, some a sport, some more of a art, some with guards down (in sparring only!) others with guards up, but in the end... It's all the sweet art of TaeKwon-Do! ^^

You missunderstood me ^^ I did not say that WTF was bad :) WTF is just as great as ITF or any other martial-art/sport. I've done some WTF myself so I know it's good, just diden't fit me. Sorry if you believed that I meant something else ^^ TaeKwon!

cmon m8 WTF is also great.. to me howeva the dif between the 2 is just the competition rules and the fact that i think that punching is more frequent in ITF and kicks in WTF..this is just my op.

Fight with our hands down? What? You are reffering to WTF sparring. Yes, they do fight with their hands down, but many other styles like mine (ITF) do use high guards and so on. WTF (guards down) are Indeed a sport, but ITF (guards up) are a Art. And yes, the jumping kicks ain't the most usefull kick, but it CAN! be usefull in certain situations. They are mainly tought to learn to controle your body, to be able to do these kicks will greatly increase what you are able to do in a fight.

(cont) it off as a martial art. I am not concerned with the ranking of students but rather what hey can learn as fast as possible for real protection. The first thing I teach my students is to keep their hands up at all times. Beginning of class the usually run around the dojo 10 - 20 times never dropping their guard from cheek level. Only mostly low snap kicks are taught to exposed nerves or knees. Usually as soon as a student joins I show them how week the rising block of tkd is. |
