I used to run home from church on Sundays to watch Summerall and Brookshire, church was at 10:00 a.m. and usually lasted 45 minutes, the showed aired at 11:00a.m. I used it as a lead in to the AFL games, as I was a New York Jets fan back in the 60's. The music , the players, old fashioned football. If I could ever put a video tribute together of the 1968 Jets, I think I'd use the exact same music you did, this is great.

This is some good stuff! 1973-80 are the years that I remember the most! NFL Films is the best!

... and, there was a great Lions movie entitled, "Paper Lion" starring George Plimpton.... and the beginning of Alex Karras' blossoming movie career :-) That was a great movie about a great team -- the Lions. Thanks for your kind words and for a little history!

I love all those old shots of the Lions and the Vikings. I remember those games like they were yesterday. Being from Detroit, we could never beat the Vikings back then. That might not be saying much now, with the current state of the Lions. However, back then, the Lions had some pretty good teams. I believe from 1969-1972, they had 4 straight winning seasons, and one playoff berth. The game with all the snow, was the 1969 Thanksgiving Day game at Tiger Stadium.

Awesome clip along with the NFL Films music to go along with it. I was only a year old in 1969, too young to truly appreciate this era of football.Just curious, but why did you include a picture of Fran Tarkenton at 2:03 who was a NY Giant that year?

They woulda' won that Superbowl, hands down.

You must be one of the idiots that think the amount of Super Bowls a team has won determines how good they are...and thats crap. John Madden even said: "The hard part is getting to the Super Bowl, not winning it." More or less. Vikings have been to the Bowl 4 times, more than most teams. There isnt a team in the league that deserves a Super Bowl win than the Vikings. Many times the vikes have lost in the playoffs due to miracles.1998 record: 15-1, highest scoring team in history. |
