I love (like a lot) The Ramones-saw them twice...you listen to their early stuff & it sounds like hopped up 60s melodic garage (not that there is anything wrong with that)...then you listen to "The Most Primitive Band in the World" recorded at a rehearsal by The Saints in 74 and it is really rough (though partly because the recording is so poor)but they do soul and 60s tracks but with a distinct "punk" attitude... just like Pere Ubu(75) and Rocket from the Tombs(74) both from Cleveland(not NYC)?

Agree totally - everyone looks to The Sex Pistols as the beginning of punk - they were 3 whole years behind The Saints...of course there's The Ramones formed also in 74...but F**K, Brisbane in 1974??? And these guys emerge??? Absolutely brilliant!!! & friggin amazing!!!

Now they werent really supported anywhere in australia in a big way when they first started .... thoough they had a following. The "Brisbane" thing is just the usual rivalry between captial cities. Sydney is wehere in the past everyone had to go to "make it".... punk (in history ) seems to have started in all the dag out of the way places .... probably cause they were starved for entertainment.

Why the division? Were they only supported in Brisbane?
