Saeed Khan's answer about Ijtihad is superb.there is some thing called speciality in every field of knowledge. if doctors says that sertain food is bad to health, then there is no room to public to say, no we have a different interpration for this!!

manji takes what she likes from the quran and criticises what she dislikes, this does not make her muslim. quran tells women to cover up , is she doing that. if she is a muslim she needs to accept each and every word of the quran and hadees.

She ain't no Muslim! Irshad is a homosexual Zionist-funded whore who is repeating garbage that is fed to her by her masters. Muslims beware!

i agree with you but i thik she does fuel the fire for peoples misconceptions about islam...people celebrate anything that goes against islam, so manji gets a good amount of attention. if she would have said i a looking to reform muslims that would have been understnadable becuase we do have personal issues, but trying to reform ISLAM...that is deserving of the punishment of shirk

those who are misguided none can guide aright unless ALLAH has mercy uopn that person.it is easy to take the qur'an out of context and make it say things that it has never inteded much like peole have done with the bible. true adherents to both books know the difference. One of the meanings of the word Islam is "peace." One cannot blame the religion for the individual actions of some of its adherents...

I would fear for the safety of all people ifreligions became as "peaceful as buddhism." what i mean is that in buddhisim if a person attacks you, you are forbbiden to defend yourself, in the name of being peaceful. that is illogical. the qur'an certainly makes provision for defending ones self, children, property, and oppressed peoples but it does not violate human rights. it upholds them, people who know islam know this.

Well my friend I am sad to say that the quran does contradict science and human rights a little bit but thats why I want muslims to look at quran from a text base for a peacfull and forgiving life rather than the dogma around the quran and the fear and stigma to ask questions about the quran, muhammed and Islam itself, I really think if Irshad Manji succseeds Islam will be as peacefull as budhism or even more.
jrock42007 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
i see. what you said makes sense, perhaps my experience is different since im a convert so i have from the beginning studied islam from an interdisciplany approach including the sciences and human rights, i wonder what imams are afraid of then...its not like science and human rights contradict islam
nemsison (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
she is saying reform muslims more than islam but islam it self does need comparison with science and human rights so we can get a version of islam in which we have the right to inturpt not the imam that studied nothing all his life but the quran and hadith. This is why most imams hate her because they will lose there monoply on there people. |
