No, really Matthew988. Certainly, I can't speak for all Americans. But I can speak for myself and in posting my previous comments...It's not so much that I think Des'ree had me in mind when she made the "Life" video as much as I'm raising the possibility that a ribbon of connectivity runs through all human experience and its more prominent than many of us realize. Does that make you feel better about haughty American imperialism and our airs of superiority?

Hurricane Floyd was a Category 2 on the SafFIR-SIMPSON scale when it made landfall at Cape Fear, NC on 9/16/99. I drove a YELLOW car then, about the shade of the crop duster in the "Life" video. My car's interior stayed dry, but water reached the crack at the bottom of the door. Moving north, Floyd's rains pushed the Blackwater River to a 100-year-flood level at FRANKlin, VA. In central NEW JERSEY, Floyd caused flooding along the RariTAN River in BOUND BROOK and the millSTONE River in MANville.

I live in eastern NC & one of my lasting memories of Hurricane Floyd's arrival was my playing a video on the computer in my bedroom of Des'ree singing "Life" in concert. It was around 2 AM and the water was starting to pile up, reaching just beneath the top of the porch; fortunately it rose no further. My mother waded out to her dog's pen to let him out. Good thing too, because otherwise, he probably would have drowned. The power went out a few minutes after that & stayed out 4 about a week.

Does this video have anything 2 do with 1999's Hurricane Floyd? I can't help but wonder since it was released the previous year & contains questionable imagery. First, Desree is traveling on an UNPAVED road & riding in a top-down convertible while holding an UMBRELLA. The YELLOW crop duster spewing pesticides could be symbolic of the prodigious rains Floyd dumped on eastern North Carolina & central New Jersey, causing historic flooding. NC had lots of dirt roads back in 1999 & still today.
