June Bronhill would be rolling in her grave. This misses the faily pointless point that it sets out to achieve in a huge way... musically and vocally... Oh Kiri...

Maybe, but she gives a valid and effective performance even so, I'd say.

To my ear the on-stage violin isn't always quite in tune either: whether that was deliberate in order to sound somehow "gypsy" or just to give an air of improvisation and naturalness, or whether it just happened, or whether I imagined it, who can say.

I think she's so over-rated. This rendition was so mediocre. Maybe she was under the weather. Still, that last high D, or lack thereof, rather, was so embarrassing. I'll have to listen to Renee Fleming to make up for this.

What's up with the orchestra and the violinist.... no one is together!!! Very weird;.. sounds like a piano pedal held down too long. I think Kiri sounds great though.

WHATEVER Kiri!

Ths staging looks like a tart.

This part doesn't do justice to Ms. Te Kanawa's voice. The role is just too big for her, and the strain is evident. The staging is pretty, at least. And she looks nice. |
