I was there all week at this competition, and believe me, it is a bicycle! No drafting a car, wind has to be blowing less than 3.7 mph (1.66 m/s), and the course is about as flat as you get for five miles to set a record.

Those speeds are only achieved by drafting behind a motorized vehicle. Sam's record is done on flat ground, all by himself.
