Horagalles, in August 1944,rather than "remaining silent", most of the French who collaborated with the Germans were fleeing to Germany - or fighting against the communists on the Russian front.

Right. France and Britain had been at war against Hitler since he attacked our ally, Poland. And, 25 years earlier at the battle of the Marne, the French army had broken Germany's dream to rule Europe. So German nationalists had an old resentment against France. It seems to have been passed down to other nations, nowadays

I'd rather say the odds were they other way round. After the War many French may have claimed resistance status, while those working together with the Germans remained silent.

Well, the German Army didn't simply "come and occupy". They had a very good reason for invading France.

The shavings happened in most occupied countries. They also happened in Germany, to women who had slept with foreign workers from France or Poland. I think the high number of shavings in France was because it was the largest of the occupied countries in Western Europe, and, yes.. perhaps some French men were shameful about the quick defeat in 1940 and were looking for revenge so why not take it out on women who had openly consorted with the enemy? Collaborating men were often shot.

Another big fat excuse for cowardice. With your big army you should open 2 front against Germany in 1939. Bulk of German forces were in Poland and only 2 divisions stay in your way.Cowards to the end.
