Foxx seems to project the a sort of cinema verite' literate cool, something like the glamour of Bowie at this best with the atmospheric presence of Lou Reed.

I love both singers, Fohn Fox and Midge Ure.How different can you get? I had the ultimate pleasure of discovering this band with Midge Ure and then all over again with John Fox. How lucky can you get? Don't forget Billie Currie, the man is a synth god and it was his sound that made Ultravox so great.

Foxx is ok but Midge seemed to sing more powerfully and passionately.

A classic mix or art and punk. This song, and a lot of their first two albums always struck me as sounding like they were from an earlier time, yet at the same time sounding so new. Almost as if they came from an alternate history, in scifi terms. John Foxx's later albums were produced by someone using the name zeus b. held, probably Billy Currie, does anyone know? You can certainly see the influence of john Foxx on Ultravox by when he left. at least Ultravox didn't tank afterwards.

I still think the first was the best - & John Foxx the missing link between Kraftwerk & Alain Resnais. The later Ultravox never waxed as poetic/cinematic. |
