Reznor was influenced more by earlier industrial groups I believe, like Throbbing Gristle and such. But those influences don't really show up in his music as much though.

Whoa relax now...And the fact that you don't give it a "label" doesn't change the fact that NIN has a label, and it's called Industrial. It doesn't denigrate the music in anyway that I can see. I don't see anyone complaining about Led Zeppelin being called Rock. I don't see any point in complaining about Nine Inch Nails being called Industrial, after all, he has yet to object to it after almost two decades.

Ogh3r how the hell do you know, are you his buddy? Nine Inch Nails is a timeless bit of musical art that is one of a kind, oh you can give it a label but I don't. Its simpley NIN. Should have a shelf of its own. Yeah you can stack your Skinny Puppy and Front 242 etc in the mix but its one of a kind art. Uncomparable.
