This song is about Methodone IMO. Some say Layne was on it for a short while trying to clean up. "Is this the way . . . " He publically said he hated Methodone, but everybody was trying to convince him he needed it. Methodone is an artificial red substance and the clinics are smokey and dirty. The house of ill repute is the dirty, greedy Methodone clinic whoring out the drug to junkees to make a profit. It's just as toxic and hard to get off as heroin.
