I'm very constrained by the length of the clips, and the time available to play and record so many games, so often, all you get is a first impression, which can be biased either by nostalgia, or reviews back in the day. Hopefully I'll be able to take a little more time on future clips, and be a little more balanced, or at least be able to put my comments in perspective, where so far, my only concern has been "is this game instantly enjoyable?"

These are all very good questions, and I must thank you, as you've given me cause to think about how I should present future clips.I do like many of the games, while some I have simply as they came as part of a bundle, and others for their historic value.Vintage games tend to be like modern games in that only a few are very good, while many are mediocre, and I think this reflects in my videos.

I think you're right about Berzerks plodding speed not being to everyone's taste.

I must confess to being very glad of all the emu games i have in my collection despite i will unlikely play through even 10% of the many thousands that there are on all the 8 and 16bit machines. But it's very interesting in a museum type of way and i often load a game of the time that i never got round to playing.Seeing a different version of one of your fave games is also fasinating and so i can better understand why it is you collect.

I enjoy many of the games in my collection, but by no means all. Often I own games simply because they were part of a bundle of both good and bad games. Some, just because they're an example of a classic arcade game, converted to whatever system. So.. hmm... it's not about enjoying owning, as such. It's kind of like a museum thing, and doccumenting the past. Some is great, some isn't. Much like games today really.

It's hard to define.Thing is, Asteroids, Pitfall, and Outrun are all fun, where to me at least, Berzerk is just too slow, with far too little happening, to be anything other than tedious.Take the concept and make it fun, and you have Robotron.

A lot of what you refer to as limited in gameplay terms is because that's the nature of what the game is.Something like Asteroids, Pitfall or or indeed a slightly more modern game like Outrun could easily be seen as limited as well if it wasn't for the score.Obviously it's just opnion if you like a game or not but personally i don't find a game like Berzerk at all boring for that reason.

When i was a collector it was because i enjoyed playing them still and there was a real purpose to it - my continued enjoyment of the games i loved to play. What might your purpose of such a collection be?.Just curious really

I'm curious, you have a nice collection of real games and hardware but you seem not to enjoy them.Certainly you don't appear to have a grasp of how to properly play them or possibly are just not enthusiastic about actually doing so.Do you simply enjoy owning them perhaps? |
