Started out strong with cool a sparse abstract phrasing. May have miscued the end of his solo.Near the end you will notice that Bassie and Keys start to come back in a disjointed way.Clip ends before you get a clear sense of how the tune picks back up after the solo.I am still and will always be working on my solosNice work. Timbales sound good, nice tuning.

All I have to say is that this person should listen to a solo by Endel Dueno or Edgardo Morales . Those are timbal solos

Vintage, I will concede he has his own style. But it didn't work for me. As I said in some other thread, you always have to feel clave through the solo, and I rarely felt it. You mentioned the great Vilato elsewhere along with some others who always implied clave -- whether playing with it or against it. To me, Nicky Marrero might be the greatest timbalero in that regard.

Well, I have a little bit of a bias toward Jose. He was my first timbale teacher. I have taken lessons with Piloto, Herlan, Ludwig, Eduardo among others and Jose's approach and concepts are just as groovy and solid as any of them. I feel that any drummer interested in the history and lineage of Timba drummers and drumming must acknowledge Jose Take a look at Chuck Silverman's "Drum Set Artists of Cuba". Jose plays some very tasty stuff. I guess that is the good thing about opinions.....

All of you need to listen to a timbalero from P.R.named Edwin Clemente and learn something. |
