Relationships between whites and blacks in America have always been complex. Jazz, blues, country, rock, even r&b have been creations of both blacks and whites through-out their history. Louis Armstrong (black) and Benny Goodman (white) both changed the history of jazz. Leonard Chess (white) produced Muddy Waters (black). Race relations were never as simple as hatred or acceptance. Duke Ellington was celebrated in Carnegie Hall but had to go in the back door at most of the orchestra's gigs.

Everything your history teacher told you is correct: the US was entirely uniform in its racism until about 1988 or so -- all white people in America were issued Ku Klux Klan cards around the same time they got their drivers' licenses, and no white person ever treated a black person as an equal, let alone danced with them. Jesus Christ on a pogo stick, man -- you ever think it might be a little racist to presume that all white people conform to a stereotype??

I know dude. I think racism is pointless and it makes no sense at all. but whether or not I feel that way, thats how the US was during the 60's and 70's. It was just a question. it just surprised me seeing as this was the time period, and whites and blacks were just having fun together. this is how it should have always been

to the person that asked the question about seeing white ppl, this is how it's supposed to be all the time living and dancing together.Remember that and your life will better for you and all around you.

there was still lots of racism, but obviously the racists wouldnt have gone to concerts by all black bands haha.

The 70s were a lot freer. Maybe if it were the 50s.
