Dress Code Violation

I was scolded today at work for a dress code violation and I felt that the Assistant manager, who used to be my friend, was completely in the wrong because he was violating the dress code right in front of me and told me that he was in the right becasue he had gotten a tattoo on his chest and that was his excuse for not wearing proper uniform. And my excuse for not wearing proper shoes was because it was very hot and I didn't want to be even hotter in socks and shoes, so I wore Sandals. And I also felt that he should practice what he preaches and not just dictate to me and everyone else rules that he himself doesn't feel that he should follow. So I need advice on how to handle the situation... Do I find a new job and forget about it, or do I Find a new job and get him in trouble anyway. I guess either way.. I am going to be finding a new job, I hate it there....
