I put this movie,The Deerhunter and American History X as the three most harrowing pieces of work to so far come out of The States...........all compulsive yet chillingly disturbing and those factors alone far outdo any of these Teen slasher movies that Hollywood are so wrongly obsessed with churning out.

The worst part is that the true story is much worse. For example, when she was locked in the basement, she was forced to lie around naked constantly, without a toilet. So she (being emaciated) would deficate and urinate all over the place, and then Gertie would force her to clean everything up, and afterwards "allow" (ie. force) her to eat it. Gertie also had all of these bizarre rituals she would put her through, but the movie didn't go into that (thank god).

This was the the most disturbing movie I have ever seen. I was cried for several hours, was depressed for a few days and six months later I'm still a little disturbed.
