Well, in case you haven't noticed, the movie isn't exactly going out of its way to be be faithful to Doyle's stories.

I think It would have worked better with Michael Caine as Watson and Ben Kingsley as Holmes. Since the stories describe Holmes as a thin man.

Wow, I always thought he says, "Run or we'll swing for it," implying they'd hang, but that never made much sense considering they're just thieves rather than murderers (although John Clay certainly tries to kill Holmes!).
