How is this Propaganda? Is 1814 propaganda, too? Johnny Horton sung songs about HISTORY not current events. If you want propaganda, try Toby Keith.

HMS Hood was built in an attempt to have a ship with enough firepower to fight a battleship while retaining the speed required to fight any of the british colonies around the world.

No they hadn't, it was a real wake up call for the British. I wouldn't really say the Bismarck was an equal to the Iowa class though, bigger, faster and better armed they represented lessons learned and newer technology. The epitome of the the Battleship.

The brits still hadn't learned the lessons of Jutland 1916 - a lightly armored cruiser is no match for a heavily armored b-ship. Cruisers like the Hood were built for commerce raiding and picket patroling, not going toe to toe with a ship of line like the Bismarck (in size and firepower an equal of the US Missouri class b-ships)

Propaganda? propaganda is used to rally support for a cause, and seeing how this song was made after the war I dont see how it could be classified as propaganda.

Huh? The Bismarck sunk the Hood. 1500 sailors where aboard, just three survived. Was your gggf. one of them?

As I said , only technically speaking. Great song though, the kind of inspiration we can all use against the adversities of every day life, no matter how big they seem.

Please explain. Does that mean your life is a shipwreak? I hope not.

but she wouldn't have been scuttled if it wasn't for the royal navy. So, if I force you to kill yourself. could anyone really say that you killed yourself and I had nothing to do with it? The ship was scuttled, but the battle was already over and she had lost. |
