pdon297402, you miss the fundamental difference...the Timberlakes of the world write and perform music where YES, and the like, INVENTED and DEFINED a music.

I love this story, skybluemarshall. Most of us die-hard YES fans have similar stories to this one. Mine is almost word for word identical. The magic of YES live is incredible. We YES fans are are different breed - especially when we were younger.

Only if you're a Philistine and have no real sense of music. You must be a thrash-metal, AC/CD fan. That's okay. Takes all types. But I saw "Yes" in Frankfurt in '73 and they were incredible. Saw them again in Berlin in '83 (maybe it was '84) and they were still pumping out melodic/intricate songs. Maybe you're tone deaf. No insults intended, just a difference of opinion. Chose in music varies much as in politics and religion and causes damn near as many arguments. Everybody smoke up & lay back.

That is an understatement. Yes were perhaps the most melodic and progressive band of the 70's. One never "rocked" at a Yes concert, they had both an elitist and intellectual appeal! You liked Yes if you had A Levels or went to Grammar School (lol). Rock bands like Led Zeppelin, Queen and Black Sabbath etc and Progressive bands like Strawbs, Yes and early Genesis etc in those days were very separate entities. It's nice to see someone appreciate this band with deserved respect. :D

The fundamental difference is simple. It is the difference between writing music and inventing music. Timberlake writes where YES invented and defined.

Maybe it's because he was the new guy at this point, so he couldn't be all flashy like entering humbly. Besides, drummers can't abide by long, flowing sleeves. |
