I think Ray Kurzweil is one of the best people in the world. He has an unprecedented 15 honorary degrees, all from different universities. He has very contrasted and complex levels of knowledge of not just humans and machines but on nutrition and has since maintained an almost perfect lifestyle as he has become obsessed with heightening his odds to see the day that he is constantly predicting.

according to Ray, a PC will pass the Turing Test in 2029. This means that Intel will be able to replace its scientists and engineers by a network of PCs. They will design the next microchip generation in 9 months (work 7/7 24h/24 no holidays no salary just electricity). This new generation will be twice as fast => Next generation in 4.5 months => then 2.25months and so on (but say not less than a month because of manufacturing) => singularity reached in 2032 and not 2050 !

Actually according to Kurzweil a single cpu the size if a stamp in 2050 will be as powerful a 6 billion human brains.

btw, where the hell is konarka with those printable solar cells?? I want some of that action on my roof...

there's physical limits, but maybe we can get around them. There may even be a temporal limit, as in the huge amount of time required to travel and take advantage of the resources of entire solar systems or stars. There are always limits, but in all honesty, nobody really knows...

As people live longer the problem of over population occurs. Unless we can find a different way to travel through space to colonize other planets -one that will not take 100 billion light years to get there.
