Bob Dylan - Mr. Tambourine Man
Mr. Tambourine Man slide show with a bunch of Bob Dylan pictures.Hey! Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me,I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to.Hey! Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me,In the jingle jangle morning I'll come followin' you.Though I know that evenin's empire has returned into sand,Vanished from my hand,Left me blindly here to stand but still not sleeping. My weariness amazes me, I'm branded on my feet,I have no one to meetAnd the ancient empty street's too dead for dreaming.Hey! Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me,I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to.Hey! Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me,In the jingle jangle morning I'll come followin' you.Take me on a trip upon your magic swirlin' ship,My senses have been stripped, my hands can't feel to grip,My toes too numb to step, wait only for my boot heelsTo be wanderin'.I'm ready to go anywhere, I'm ready for to fadeInto my own parade, cast your dancing spell my way,I promise to go under it.Hey! Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me,I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to.Hey! Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me,In the jingle jangle morning I'll come followin' you.Though you might hear laughin', spinnin', swingin' madly across the sun,It's not aimed at anyone, it's just escapin' on the runAnd but for the sky there are no fences facin'.And if you hear vague traces of skippin' reels of rhymeTo your tambourine in time, it's just a ragged clown behind,I wouldn't pay it any mind, it's just a shadow you'reSeein' that he's chasing.Hey! Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me,I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to.Hey! Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me,In the jingle jangle morning I'll come followin' you. Then take me disappearin' through the smoke rings of my mind,Down the foggy ruins of time, far past the frozen leaves,The haunted, frightened trees, out to the windy beach,Far from the twisted reach of crazy sorrow.Yes, to dance beneath the diamond sky with one hand waving free,Silhouetted by the sea, circled by the circus sands,With all memory and fate driven deep beneath the waves,Let me forget about today until tomorrow.Hey! Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me,I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to.Hey! Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me,In the jingle jangle morning I'll come followin' you.

Whatever this song is supposed to be about, it has a lonely, haunting quality about it that I would think most anyone could feel deeply.I always thought that the song was about the drug experience, but what do I know? Could be about lonliness, death, or just a part of the human experience that strives to fill the feelings of emptiness. Great song.

Personally, I love both versions. Interestingly, the Byrds released their version before Dylan released one.

No you're right, I don't know that, but I think it. For someone who thinks of this as art, you seem to have a slightly shallow perception of the song. That's just my opinion (I can't believe that in the 21st century we have to present an opinion with the words "In my opinion" so nobody thinks you're trying to express an incorrect perception of fact rather than an opinion. If I were not to put that sentence at the end, even more people would be complaining at me... Oh well.)

you dont know that. it dosent matter though. its art. and like all art it is perception. dont call this art and then attack others when they interperate diffrently. art is a perception. and my perception says hes asking a guy for drugs and getting high. people may like to make it something deeper than that, but thats their choice.

i think so to. everyone says im an idiot and its about death, but the lyrics don't fit it. it sounds like a guy asking for drugs. the tambourine man is supposed to be happieness (a drug dealer).

I think that song is about death
hairy0pothead (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
It's not about a fucking drug dealer it's deeper than that, it is about being on drugs, that plays a part in it but it's about your mind when you're in that place when you're high, you don't necessarily need drugs to get there, but if you can't relate to the song, don't try to, just enjoy it.
