Thorpe retired before Beijing, he had surgery gone wrong and has been battling infections for the past year so there's no way he could be at 100% for it.

What a great champion Thorpe was. It's such a pity that he won't be there in China this summer to defend his titles. Without question one of the greatest swimmers in history. Ian - we miss you!
