See, if everyone appreciated it in that way, I would have no problem with it. But people take it as music and praise him as if he had played a flawless Ocean Etude; thats what bothers me.

See, I don't really consider it music - I consider it a way of showing the listener the beauties of silence. Suddenly, silence never seemed so important. The listener is now listening to nothing, more than ever before, just to see what happens next, albeit probably not much, but still. I just don't think he wanted people to really consider it as music, just a groundbreaking approach to hear what is always there if you get away from the incessant noise.

I think the real genius is not in the song itself, but the idea. I mean, obviously we're not praising him because he can sit down at a piano for 4 minutes and 33 seconds and do nothing, we're praising him for the fact that he formed the idea and theory behind it. It's regarded as a brave and innovative approach to sound and music; and the genius part is again, not the song itself, but the fact that he reveals to the world the essence of silence, and separation of it and music.

Oh, amazing! He's sitting at a piano...but he's not playing music! ZOMG THIS MAN IS A GENIUS!Fuck post-modernism and all its incarnations. Why bother to have actual talent when you can just be ZOMG SOO ORIGINAL AND EDGY. I bet I could publish a book with all blank pages and people would worship me if I just said I was inspired by the I Ching. I hope to God that this is satirical. If not, this is one of the most pretentious artists to ever compose.
