Karsten Troyke is great!!! I`ve seen him live two or three times so far. Great voice and great performance! He is a very polite and likeable person and supported several russian singers to start a career in Germany.

To be honest - my fault: people were coming to Lodz from all over the Europe - quite a lot of Brits, even from Portugal. During XIX century Lodz used to be called "promised land"... ;)

albertdiner:I: Before WWII there was something like Lodzermensch (read: Lodzermensh) - people of Polish, Jewish, German, Russian, Austrian and other descent, who were connected by one thing - the city they were living in. Lodz was in the XIX century one of the quickest developing cities - people were coming to find a job or make some business from all over the Central and Eastern Europe.

II: Lodzermensch - also meant: local patriot from Lodz. Lodzer panienka - a girl from Lodz. Most of Lodz inhabitants felt their connection with Poland, although most of them were not Polish, but German and Jewish(!) ;)It was very interesting city during that period (but imho Lwow was much more interesting because of high culture, science and cultural mix).

Great song, I love it!!!The melody of the refrain "Ich hob gemaint...." reminds me of Zarah Leanders song "Nur nicht aus Liebe weinen".Panienka is polish and means just "little Fraulein".
