To all those people saying the word "fake". I have 1 question for you. Do you know any of these astronauts???? I know one...Mark Kelly, the pilot. I worked his wife's re-election camp. This is anything but fake. Reality shows are fake, science is anything but fake. Infact he and I loved to chat about his missions. Yes, Lisa Nowak was a nutter...no doubt about it, she should have never been on that mission. Barbara Morgan should have.I love this launch perspective.

To be honest, it's only MS1 in seat 3 that really does anything to help the CDR and PLT on ascent/descent. MS1 is designated as Flight Engineer and has a copy of various troubleshooting checklists in case of a problem going up or downhill.

That's a good point, they are desensitized by their training.I believe I've also read once that many astronauts do not really like to talk in public about those psychological effects though. I've met one astronaut after a speech and he just gave a very global answer.

They go through months of training to desensitize them to the experience. They practice it so much it becomes nearly second nature. There is a lot more activity by the astronauts than I expected though. I figured that everyone but the Pilot and Commander would be pretty much just hanging on...

Not only that but NASA TV is hoping to go HD soon. They've been downlinking live video from the ISS, not just pre-recorded stuff.
