I fuckin hate this honestly discriminating people who can't speak standard english to all you fuckin uppity motherfuckers out there it ain't YOUR FUCKIN BUSINESS, whether we speak Patois, Cocney or the urban ghetto style that Ali G adopts it is who we are if you cannot accept that then there is no place for you in the world of REAL PEOPLE. so you motherfuckers stop being so up your own arses and take a fuckin look not everyone has a high horse where the dad can bail them out if they killed mans.

Jamaica was never a french island...it was portugese/spanish and british(irish)...therefore OUR patois is a spanish/irish form not french....the words are derived from spanish/portugese and OLD African words...it aslo includes hindi and urdi which is y it is hard for others to understand AND most importantly it is IRISH based (which most west indies patois/creole) except for haiti is made up of :)

I share what springs to mind of what little I know:French: Patois (patwah), name of language Spanish/Portugese: Maroon (maroon), runaway slaves; pequenino/pequeno/pequeño (pikney/pickaninny) small childMany nouns are derivative but this is what I picked up (and can remember), when u talk you don't know who invented the words u use and u mostly don't care to know. There is a language unit that does research on this stuff tho, and they're online, The Jamaican Language Unit (JLU). g'luck |
