john morrisy had been tormented by poole, for being an immigrant, and challenged poole to a boxing match. morrasy was knocked down, and poole left, thinking he had won, but morrasy got back up. Morrasy then challenged POOle again, and poole only won that one after his friend joined the fight.(their rivalry occured over a bet on a previous fight,when morrasy fought yankee sulivan,and Poole,obviously, bet for 'yankee'.the fight was won by morrasy, a brawl ensued when it was clear yankee was losing

the dead rabbits were real, as were the Natives, though they were called the Bowery Boys, and led by Bill Poole, nicknamed, Bill the Butcher, who cutting was based upon. the dead rabbits were too real, but dead rabbits actuallr means; 'dead' is british and irish slang for 'very', as i , a brit, know, and rabbit is slang for rabid,deadly.aka,'very deadly'.all gangs mentioned in the film were real,except the plum uglies,who were in baltimore maryland. Poole was killed by a dead rabbit...

its fiction but based on actual happinings like i pretty sure the dead rabbits (the Irish) was a real gang and some other stuff

I always thought it was a weird, that the American was British and the Irish guy was American, odd choice casting.
