There is no clear definition of democracy. It means rule by the people. But modern democracy is more like oligarcy (~Rule by experts). Atleast where I am (Sweden).

You forgot the very worst 'ocracy; Theocracy aka religious society. Imagine a world where the president was god's best pal, where even thinking against the state was a punishable sin. Religious societies are the most conservative and brutal. It was for this reason that Hitler promoted christianity so much, making it compulsory in schools and commanding women to go to church with their children, why he entrenched religion into the army also Dictators like to be seen as God.. or as his best pal.

We live in a democracy? That would mean that the people of the country choose who holds office. But the political parties have imposed themselves on the body politic and decide what options we have to choose from. We are left with two competing factions. And, if NPV and winner-take-all are put into effect, local districts will be denied a share in the decision and a "corrupt bargain" will decide who is elected to office. One wonders about the integrity of the political and legal communities.

i always vote. i know my vote wont change anything really but i take pleasure in knowing that i have let the people in charge know i don't like them. also, as a woman, voting is still a new privilige to my gender, less than 100 years. one day i will be the only person still voting and i will vote for me! |
