Ojimex, when you write that some natives were forced into this or they'd face jail time, can you clarify that? Buffalo Bill employed many Sioux to perform in his show, including Sitting Bull, who earned ca 50 dollars a week and became quite a celebrity in Europe as well. They also became good friends. Despite of what one now thinks of the show and its connotations, not all white men were oppressers and exploiters AND not all natives were ignorant, helpless victims.

oh i c, very true. i noticed that they were only dancing in view of the camera and close together as well. Traditionaly they dance in a big cirlce with drummers in the middle.

I don't know enough about Native American dances. What I was commenting on was the true passion they would put into the dance without the camera, It really looked like they were distracted

it was a real dance and ur right about Buffalo Bill. Some natives were forced into this after being forced to surrender or they would face jail time. It is a true dance though, they still dance like that today. I've never seen it on film though, thats freakin crazy! that dance must be thousands of years old. Im amazed.

I think this video may be a fake - as in not real Natives. They look more like white men dressed and trying to play Natives... just as the white men painted themselves dark to play black people in Minstrel shows.And are those "Chuck Taylors" on their feet?

I don't think this was a true dance in the way that they are to focused on the camera and not even probably concentrating on what there really doing. You can see a Buffalo Bill tag on the film on the lower right hand corner. Its nice to see such a old film but sad at the same time
